The maloca lodge & park
Jungle Adventure
Maloca Lodge & Park and is situated in a village called Llucanayacu (joo-KAH-nah-YAH-koo), which means rising water in the Quechua language.
An adventure lodge
The authentic Amazon lodge, hand-built by the Chujandama Clan, is a beautiful and elegant structure. There is nothing like it in the area. It is constructed from local hardwoods and features strong palm leaf roofs. The Maloca is comprised of 2 levels, making 12 rooms with private toilet and hot shower. There are 4 suites and 8 double rooms.
In the center of the amazon lodge building are ornamental plants and a natural stone, fresh water pool. The water is the pool is captured from a little stream and the water is constantly refreshing. We are very proud to accommodate our guests in this beautiful, elegantly designed amazon lodge. If design awards were given in the Amazon, this amazon lodge would be in the running for the Gold!
In the heart of the jungle of San Martin Peru, along the Huallaga River
The Maloca Lodge & Park stretches over 34 hectares along the Huallaga (wah-JAH-ga) river, and is saturated with pristine rainforest. There is a restaurant with open kitchen and dining area located across the footbridge. The kitchen is set up with modern equipment (high standard hygiene) for you to enjoy the excellent cuisine of this region.
The zoo and botanic area
Flora and fauna of the PERUVIAN Jungle
In front of the Maloca lodge there is a shelter with animals. The goal of the park is to take care of domesticated animals kept in private homes in the area. In general the animals are not well taken care of, and are in need of better circumstances. Furthermore we want to bring our guests in direct contact with these animals as a part of your rainforest adventure. The animals here are different species of monkeys, guacamayo (big parrets), big jungle turtles, aguotis, small crocodilles and more are to come.
Excotic fish of Peru
There are ponds and a lake with a variety of exotic fish which are primary grown for consumption and recreation. The species are Piraña, Paco, Tilapia, Gamitana, Bocachica and Paiches. Our guests can observe, feed and catch the fish.
Botanic gardens
In the botanic garden the main species are medicine plants which the natives have been using for centuries to cure pains and illnesses.
Every plant or tree has his history to tell. The natives of this place are very knowlegdable of the plants as traditionally they have been their only source of food and medicine. Even today they prefer to use their own plant medicine instead of the chemical medicine of modern society.
The history
THEIR History
The natives of this area originally lived in the Andes area and are descendants of the Chancas. They lived close to the Incas but when the Incas started their wars, they lost the wars against the Incas, as well as their homes, and were forced to flee to different locations.
During the years that followed - after the 15th century - they were chased by the Incas all the way to Lamas. In their new home they formed a extensive cultural and language family which we call today the Lamistas. Some of the Lamistas went to the valley of Tarapoto where the savage warrior tribe of the Cumbazas dedicated their lives to hunting and fishing
In 1537 the Spanish arrived in the north of the province of San Martin and their entry in this region meant horror, destruction and death. Some of the tribes in Tarapoto and Lamas were wiped out completely. The Chujandama Clan ended up in Llucanayacu, deep inside the jungle, close to where the Center is located today.
The Center is an historic place for the natives of the region. Many of the elders were born exactly where the Center is, and this makes it a special place. The Chujandama clan is a clan of curanderos and there is an ceremonial Maloca in which ceremonies are held. Their knowledge of the curing plants is substantial and there is usually always someone doing a diet in the tambus (diet huts).
